The Quinn-tessential View

Outsiders: Like it or not, Penn State is one of those rare institutions for which the general public either harbors love or hate.   People who love PSU, love it unconditionally.   People who hate PSU do so without a legitimate reason – of course, reason is something we don’t usually need in sports.   After all, as a Philly guy, I have despised the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants since birth.   Why?   It’s just in my blood.   Unfortunately, those are not the only two categories of outsiders.   There is the third category – those who simply listen to the rhetoric, adopt the bumper-sticker slogans, and live in a totally black and white world of the media.   This third group is large and, perhaps fittingly, is preyed upon by the media.   To them, I simply say, read part one of this essay! To those who simply love PSU, but are not affiliated with it in any way directly, I am quite sure the horror of what has been revealed in the Jerry Sandu...

I have spent the better part of the last week trying to wrap my head around the allegations that have my beloved Nittany Lion family in such disarray and turmoil.   Through happenstance, I have had the opportunity to view the allegations and the “facts” as they have been reported in light of the birth of my second son on November 6, 2011.   As I have examined and digested the various stories, rumors, allegations, and rhetoric, I have reached a few basic conclusions.   Some of you will agree and some will not.   Some will demonize me, and others will call me naïve.   But, hopefully, some of you will simply read and reflect.   You see, as I sit here drinking from my Penn State Football 2005 Big Ten Champion glass, and wearing my Penn State Blue Band t-shirt, I am in great conflict as I attempt to be objective about this entire debacle, particularly when I know exactly what I would do to anyone who even came close to causing any injury to my sons, sexually or ...
